How to get a decent ftp feature in Eclipse / PDT

Hi folks!

A hint to get an excellent ftp feature in Eclipse or PDT.

I used to develop my symfony web applications with Ecplipse PDT project (here), that give me all the PHP support I need. Then I tried Aptana Studio, based on Eclipse, but I didn’t like its PHP features. But I found very useful its FTP sync manager.

Now, use Aptana without some PHP features or use PDT without decent FTP?

After some tests, I realize that PDT with Aptana plugin is the best choice!

  1. Get Ecplipse PDT all-in-one at http://www.eclipse.org/pdt/
  2. At http://www.aptana.org/studio/download choose “Eclipse plugin” in installation type, click download and follow the described steps to install the plugin
  3. Restart Eclipse

The result is a full PDT installation plus all the Aptana features.
I like using PDT’s PHP perspective with FTP sync (right-click -> Synchronize), and open HTML and CSS files with Aptana Editor (right-click -> open with).

That’s all!

P.S. FTP sync on Linux is much faster then on Windows!
